What You Need to Know about Rhinoplasty Abroad

You might be considering rhinoplasty, or a 'nose job' if you feel unhappy with about your nose. Perhaps you do not like the shape, angle or size, or maybe you have a breathing problem or nasal bump. Maybe you feel your nose is not in proportion compared with an overall look of your face. If any of these issues sound familiar to you, a rhinoplasty could be the solution you are looking for. This type of surgery can resize and/or reshape your nose.

Is Rhinoplasty Right for You?

Candidates for rhinoplasty might have a nose which they feel is too big for their face or a bump on the bridge of the nose when their face is viewed in profile.
Some might have a plunging or drooping nasal tip. Or a thickened, enlarged nose, while others might have excessively flared nostrils. Perhaps your nose has always been crooked. Or off-center or maybe you had an injury which caused that to happen. Your nose is always on display, so it cannot be hidden. This is one reason rhinoplasty is such a popular surgery choice.

Whichever elements of your nose you are unhappy with, the nose job surgery could be the right option for you. The Rhinoplasty is the name given to the surgery that corrects and reconstructs the nose. Giving it a better appearance and restoring its functions.

It is important to know that rhinoplasty offers the most dramatic results of all cosmetic surgeries. The reason being the nose is right in the center of your face so your look is going to be drastically changed. You will need to adjust to your new look. Perhaps you will have some small scars located at the base of your nose. Depending on the type of surgery you choose, or you might suffer skin problems because of the grafting materials used. Rhinoplasty is irreversible, so it is a decision you need to think about carefully.

What to Do Before and After the Nose Surgery

The plastic surgeon will give you instructions on pre-op and post-surgery care. But, there are several things that apply to all rhinoplasty candidates. First, it is important you stop smoking 6 weeks (at least) before the surgery, to help with healing. Second, eat healthily and keep well hydrated in the weeks before the operation. This also helps with healing. Do not take medicines which cause increased bleeding, such as aspirin.
  • After the surgery, arrange to have someone pick you up and stay with you on the first night. You will not be able to drive yourself home.
  • Avoid blowing your nose, strenuous sports or activities like jogging or aerobics. Be gentle when brushing your teeth, and when moving the upper lip, and shower instead of bathing if you have bandages on.
  • Try not to rest glasses on your nose and try to limit extreme facial expressions. Do not apply any type of pressure to your nose.

This surgery might be performed inside the nose or via a small incision at the base of the nose, depending on your anatomy and what exactly is being done. The nasal bone or cartilage can be augmented in various ways. The surgical packing will be removed 4 to 7 days after the operation and the splint and bandages will come off after 7 to 10 days. Expect a couple of weeks before all the bruising has improved enough for you to return to work. You can resume many activities, such as gentle exercise, after 3 weeks.
